Are you thinking of starting your own business, going out on your own or jumping into entrepreneur land?
Are you debating whether you need to quit your day job to live a life of meaning and purpose?
Just know that when you love what you do it will lead you to do what you love.
You don’t have to quit your day job to enjoy what you do and create a life of meaning and fulfillment. That being said if you are inspired to go out on your own and embrace being an entrepreneur here are some of the key tips and advice that I think every aspiring entrepreneur should know, many of which have been key for both Mel and I as we created our businesses.
- It takes three years to establish a business.
Just know that creating and establishing a business takes time. On average it takes three years. That’s right, 3 years! It is not a quick fix or a get rich quick scheme, it takes time, commitment and a whole lot of love. Be patient and enjoy the journey. There is no rush!
- You don’t have to quit your day job.
Before you quit your day job there may be a more loving way to transition… Here are a few options…
- Have enough money that you can cover all your expenses without having to make any money (often 2 years’ worth of savings).
- Have a part-time job that covers your expenses.
- Have a partner who can support you finically as you build.
- Build your business on the side of your day job.
- Build from inspiration rather than desperation.
It is super important to create your business, service, etc. from a place of inspiration rather than desperation. If you are desperate for sales or clients than your potential clients will feel that. The key is to grow from a place of love. This is another reason why it’s important to have financial resources to help you in your transition.
- You don’t have to reinvent the wheel.
Hiring a coach, finding a mentor and enlisting the help and guidance of those who are already doing what you want to do is not only wise, it will save you a ton of time and energy.
- The key to success is feeling like an expert and having good self-worth.
If you want to be successful, start taking action and do things that are going to make you feel like an expert. This may include taking a course, seminar, reading, volunteering, etc.
It is also super important to do your inner work to increase your self-worth and esteem. Creating a loving business or going out on your own takes a ton of courage, self-confidence, and energy. The biggest factor in whether you will be successful comes down to, whether or not you believe you are worthy of it. Take the time to invest in yourself and to increase your self-worth.
Being an entrepreneur often requires 10x more input than working for someone else. It can also yield 100x the rewards. If this is something that your heart is guiding you to do, start taking small actions now, have patience and enjoy the journey.
