Let Go Of Your Fear Of Failing: The Lessons Are In The Mistakes

Where in your life are you afraid of making a mistake or scared of being or getting it wrong?

If you are like many of my clients, perhaps you are ready to make a transition in terms of your career. Maybe you are ready to branch out and start your own business, take the next step and work for yourself. Regardless of what area of your life you are scared of making a mistake, the outcome is typically the same.

When you feel like you have to have it all figured out ahead of time and feel scared of getting it wrong, you end up doing nothing which adds to your fear and inevitably gets you stuck. This unconscious and often conscious fear begins to paralyze you and instead of jumping in, you wait and wait and wait until everything is just right (which is often never).

It’s no different than playing a sport. When you are afraid to jump in, you end up standing on the sideline. Yes, you can learn by watching others play the game, but at the end of the day, you learn way more and have way more fun once you jump in and learn for yourself.

If you are someone who historically has been a perfectionist, overachiever or thrives off of certainty and control, just know that you are not alone!

It is common to be scared to make a mistake. If this is you, I encourage you to change the way you view winning.

From now on winning = playing the game!

This means taking action regardless of the outcome because either way, you are going to win because you will learn something new that you didn’t know before. You can always pivot and go in a different direction, but the key is to jump in and take action.

Just know the key to success isn’t getting it ‘right’ it is jumping in and asking what did I learn? Then you can build upon it and build upon it. That’s how you get clarity.

Let’s say you are playing high jump and rather than viewing winning as making it over the bar you make winning learning the lessons whether the bar goes up or the bar goes down.

Just by playing you are winning because when the bar falls down you learn and when the bar stays up you learn.

You can’t make a mistake.

Take your time.

Taking action just brings you closer to the next step.

Where in your life are you not taking action because you are scared of making a mistake?

What is one action step you can take towards it?

How can you redefine your game so that success and winning= jumping in and learning lessons?

How can you have more fun while doing it?

Here are a few more tips on how to jump in…

  • Remember by challenging yourself to step out of your comfort zone you will be supported!
  • Use an inspiring affirmation… “There are no mistakes only lessons.” Or “outside of my comfort zone lines my destiny.”
  • Release old stories and fears by doing your inner work.
  • Creating an inspiring why.
